Required Qualifications for Case Acceptance

  1. The case must involve the sexual assault of an individual 16 years of age or older.

  2. A high quality STR profile of the unknown subject (perpetrator/suspect) must have already been obtained from evidence.

  3. The STR profile must have already been uploaded into CODIS and produced zero “hits” (matches).

  4. The agency/associated laboratory must be willing and able to send evidence/DNA extract for SNP testing while maintaining proper chain of custody. Nemesis IGG does NOT conduct SNP testing nor will we facilitate transfer of evidence.

  5. The agency/associated laboratory must be willing and able to upload obtained SNP profiles to GEDMatch and FamilyTreeDNA and share said profile with Nemesis IGG for genealogical work.

Application Form Instructions

  1. Agency Name

    • The name of the agency that is leading the investigation (e.g. Smalltown Police Department)

  2. Agency Contact Name

    • The name of the individual who will be in contact with Nemesis IGG throughout the genealogical work; usually the lead investigator for the case

  3. Agency Contact Email

    • The email address where correspondence from Nemesis IGG relating to the case should be forwarded

  4. Agency Contact Phone Number

    • The phone number where the agency contact can be reached for case updates and questions

  5. Does the case involve a sexual assault of an individual 16 years of age or older?

    • Yes means the case you are submitting for review involves a sexual assault and the victim was 16 years of age or older. Nemesis IGG does not work with non-sexual assault cases and does not work on cases involving minors (individuals under the age of 16).

  6. Has a high quality STR profile of the unknown subject been obtained?

    • Laboratory testing should already have been conducted on any evidence obtained. A high quality (i.e. full/complete) STR profile believed to belong to the unidentified subject (perpetrator) must already have been isolated/identified from available evidence. Nemesis IGG will not accept cases where a complete STR profile has not already been obtained. Nemesis IGG does not conduct laboratory testing and will not facilitate laboratory testing with outside vendors.

  7. Has the STR profile been uploaded to CODIS?

    • Nemesis IGG will not accept any case where the suspect’s STR profile has not already been uploaded to CODIS.

  8. Did the STR profile receive any "hits" or matches in CODIS?

    • Nemesis IGG will not accept any cases that have received “hits” in CODIS. We will also not accept cases that have only been recently uploaded to CODIS, to allow for due processing and potential hits to be investigated prior to our involvement.

  9. Is there enough DNA extract remaining/available for a SNP profile to be obtained?

    • IGG uses a different type of DNA testing known as SNP testing. DNA extract is required to obtain an SNP profile. Your agency’s laboratory should have information on how much extract is remaining or if new extract can be obtained from original evidence. If there is no extract or evidence available, SNP testing cannot be performed and Nemesis IGG will be unable to conduct genealogical testing for your case.

  10. Is your agency willing to send any remaining DNA extract for SNP testing?

    • DNA extract must be used to obtain an SNP profile. Typically, the extract must be sent to an external laboratory/vendor (e.g. BODE, Othram, DNAI) for SNP testing. Is your agency willing and able to send extracts to outside laboratories? Nemesis IGG does not conduct SNP testing and will not facilitate transfer of evidence/extracts to other laboratories. Nemesis IGG will not pay for any SNP testing. Agencies are responsible for the cost of developing an SNP profile.

  11. Is your agency willing to upload obtained SNP profiles to websites like GEDMatch and FamilyTreeDNA?

    •  In order to conduct IGG, SNP profiles must be uploaded to DNA databases like GEDMatch. You/your agency must be willing to upload these profiles and share them with Nemesis IGG for research. If we accept your case, we can help you through this process step by step. It is also important to note that sites like GEDMatch have special rules in place for law enforcement agencies and their SNP profiles to keep them private and un-searchable by the public.

  12. Do you understand that Nemesis IGG does NOT conduct SNP testing and will not facilitate the transfer of evidence to external labs?

    • Nemesis IGG is solely a genealogical research company. We will not pay for SNP testing, conduct SNP testing, or facilitate the transfer of extracts/evidence to outside vendors. We will only work with SNP profiles that are ready for upload and research.

  13. Do you understand that any potential subjects provided by Nemesis IGG must be confirmed by your agency using traditional STR testing?

    • IGG and SNP testing are not widely accepted in the court system and as a system of identification in forensics. Any potential DNA matches provided by Nemesis IGG are not considered grounds for arrests or convictions. We can only provide you with investigative leads. Any potential match must be confirmed (or excluded) using traditional STR testing.

  14. Have you previously tried IGG with this case?

    • Has another agency or private company examined this case using IGG before? If yes, answer question 16. If no, skip to question 17.

  15. If you have previously attempted IGG with this case, what was the outcome? Leave blank if this does not apply.

    • Briefly describe any outcomes of prior IGG research. You do not need to include specific agencies or laboratories that you used or specific names. Did you receive any investigative leads? Did they deem the case unsolvable or suggest waiting for more DNA profiles to be uploaded? What did they imply were the difficulties of solving this case?

  16. If this is your first time pursuing IGG for this case, please briefly describe why.  Leave blank if this does not apply.

    • Briefly describe why you are interested in pursuing IGG for this case.

  17. If we choose to accept your case, how would you prefer to be contacted?

    • Case reports/updates will be shared routinely via email. If we have additional questions or need further information, should we email or call?
